Parser stats

Stats are run nightly, at 3 AM Pacific time. If stats are really out of date, bug Muffin, because something's broken! If you have a request for a certain stat to show up, ask Muffin on dpb.

NOTE: For these analyses, the notion of "day" and "time" is always relative to the sender's email timestamp. Usually, that means the sender's timezone, though it can be a bit messy. As such, "a day" generally means "the set of posts which were timestamped on a specific day, regardless of timezone."

Aggregate metrics

There have been 524772 posts in the history of dpb. Currently, the day with the single highest count is 2005-06-10, on which there were 1234 posts. The most popular subject from that day was "", which had posts to it that day.

Here is a graph of posting rates per day, across the history of dpb:

You may have noticed above that there seems to be an odd point at which dpb really got crazy: Around December of 2002. It turns out, that's right around the time that D joined. Here's the graph again, on the same scale, BEFORE D joined:

...and again, the same graph of time AFTER D joined:

Over the course of a day, when are people posting to dpb? Here's the average posting behavior per hour (recall that "hour" is measured by the timestamp time). Note the only real "dead zone" is between 2 and 6 AM, and the amusing "lunch break" dip:

Separating out this hourly plot by days, over the course of the week, we see an average week on dpb. We're active on weekends, but not exceptionally so:

In contrast, this is the week prior to when this script was run. Is this a normal week? Why or why not? (5 points, answer in complete sentences.)

...and finally, here is the past month in terms of posts-per-day (note that the 0-1350 scale is the same as for the historic data):

Growth

Each bar in this plot represents 30 days, with dpb beginning on the left and today on the right. The height of the bar corresponds to the number of people who had "joined" dpb, making their first post, prior to this date.

The graph below has the same number of bars, and counts the number of posts within each bar, so you can see the relationship between membership and number of posts per day.

Individual metrics

This is a list of people who have posted, over the history of DPB, from most to least poo-tiful. You can see the top posters in terms of VOLUME of posts (by total number of posts) and in terms of posting rate (the number of posts they've made in the time between their first and latest post).

Identity is determined based on yahoo IDs, the "From" field in your emails sent, how you sign your emails, or Muffin's guessing. If you see your raw YahooID listed or if you are listed more than once, tell Muffin what your YahooID is.

And then, the same, but using WORDS instead of POSTS.
